Author: Jenny Smith

Jenny Smith is a designer who started blogging in 2004 to share lesson and activity ideas with members of her home branch Mississippi. Her collection has grown, and she now single-handedly manages the world's largest collection of free lesson help for LDS teachers with faceted search. Her library includes teaching techniques, object lessons, mini lessons, handouts, visual aids, and doctrinal mastery games categorized by scripture reference and gospel topic. Jenny loves tomatoes, Star Trek, and her family -- not necessarily in that order.

I really am stopping

I am stopping for the day, but it's so hard to cease and desist when you're getting so much done! First, I got the changes made on the basement blueprints to take the county. They were immediately approved, and we are now the owners of an "addition permit" or whatever it's called. I fixed some […]

Awesome Lesson

Jillyne gave an excellent lesson from the Joseph Smith manual during Relief Society on Sunday. The topic was personal apostasy, and she likened it to the story of Lehi's vision in the Book of Mormon. She brought out a couple of interesting points. As a side note, Alka-seltzer does work for urinary tract infections. I'm […]

Productivity

Ah -- the sweet relief of feeling productive..... Today I cleaned rugs, put shelves in the closet and rearranged all the cleaning supplies, updated pricing for Crowning Jewel, paid Specialties, emailed the (new) Bishop, enlisted a new VTer, called my secretary and Ed counselor and a sick member, and have done a little on the […]

So tired.

One thing is clear -- the website is not user-friendly enough. I spent most of last week working on making the nodes for story and image display better. Bunged out a thing for object lessons, too. Based on the incredibly poor user response to the site in terms of posting activity, it's clear that I've […]

The kids make me laugh

Conversation about why DD was hot during her bout of stomach flu: Mommy: What do you think causes a fever? DS: Maybe it's because all her cells are moving around fast and causing friction. Or maybe her nerves are getting hot like a wire that gets hot when too much electricity goes through it. DD […]

Strongbad

A couple of years back I was introduced to StrongBad by a Homestar Runner fan on our family website. Back when Mormon Share started going up and down, I started a list of StrongBads that were my favorite. Here's the partially complete list. This list is in reverse chronological order, so you should start at […]

10,000 visitors?

AWStats says Mormon Share had over 10,000 visitors on Saturday, and nearly 8,000 on Sunday. I'm a little suspicious of those results. Heretofore, 7,000 has been the most I've had in one day. I don't really have a good way to gauge it myself, because I got sick with the stomach flu on Saturday. I […]

It's alive......

It's impossible to believe, but the website was up overnight under heavy load. Nearly 5,000 visitors yesterday and over 3,000 so far today -- yay! Jared has been working very hard to fix all the problems we've been riddled with over the past few weeks. He's also moving us to a faster server, but it's […]

Arg

I'm still so frustrated! We can't get the settings right on the server. Jared is doing some more research now to see if he can figure out what to do. I am _so_ ready to have this finished. He did get all the old forum posts imported last week. The phpbb2drupal module was actually pretty […]
