Divide class into groups of 2-4. Each group gets a scissors, stapler, 15-20 5.5 X 8.5 sheets of paper, and a copy of the day?s newspaper. Students cut out any article, headline, word, picture, comic, etc?, staple it to a sheet of paper, and write which mastery reference applies and why.
With 15 minutes left in class, ask each group to choose three of their cutouts to share with the class; each group then takes a minute or two to share their favorites.
All cutouts are turned in to the teacher, who can then paper a bulletin board, wall, display board, etc?.
