New Scripture Mastery Passages for Book of Mormon 2013

Today another Seminary teacher came to observe my classroom (more on that later), and she mentioned something that the kids had talked about in class yesterday: the scripture mastery passages have changed!  I decided to take a quick look this afternoon before the kids get home to see what changes have been made.

There are 8 changes to the Book of Mormon scripture mastery list as best I can tell. There are 7 new passages — meaning 7 eliminations — and one scripture mastery has been made longer.  The net change in number of verses to memorize is three. NEW (15) – OLD (12), so the new Book of Mormon scripture mastery list adds 3 verses to memorize.

Here is the new list:

This change means that a lot of new games and such will be need to be made over the summer.  My friend has been teaching a while, and she has to remake lots of magnet strips and flash cards that she has been using for years that will have to all be redone.

Anyway, that’s what I know.

Also, the new Book of Mormon Seminary teacher’s manual is online.  My first impression is that it is SUPER GREAT!  Finally, lessons that get students into the scriptures instead of talking around them.  Hooray.  I will do a more detailed inventory of the lessons over the summer.  I’m hoping the pacing chart will be easier to adjust than it seems at first glance….
