Begin by singing Scripture Power.
Say, “We are going to go on a treasure hunt and look for treasure”.
Read 1st clue (below). During the treasure hunt try and get the children to do something else (say, “instead of going to the library how about if we go to the cultural hall and see if we can find the next clue?” to show that you need to be obedient, and you’ll be blessed if you follow what the scriptures say. All of the children said, “No, we need to follow the clue”.)
While you’re gone have someone set up a display in the room with a picture of Jesus, the scriptures, Faith in God book, etc. and I used a toy treasure chest with gold chocolate money inside for the treasure (labeled “Eternal Life with Heavenly Father”).
Clues: I put them in envelopes labeled with the Clue # and then opened them up and read them as we got to each one.
#1 – And again, verily I say unto you, let my servants, the 6th ward primary children, travel into the wilderness through the west door of the building and search near the tree for further instructions.
#2 – Thou shalt make thy way very quietly to where the pictures and scriptures are stored in the church building (library).
#3 – And now it came to pass that I did command the primary children to travel to the bishop’s office for their next clue.
#4 – If ye love me, keep my commandments, and go to the nursery doors.
#5 – And I give unto you a commandment that ye shall walk very reverently to the chapel doors where you will receive your next clue.
#6 - Verily I say unto you, he that keepeth my commandments, and follows their leaders back into the Primary room will receive a great reward.
When children are sitting in their seats after the treasure hunt sing “I Lived in Heaven” (CS, 4). We are right back where we started. The Primary Room is like where we lived before we came to earth, with Heavenly Father. Then while we are on earth we have many different choices and when we make the correct ones we will end up back with our Heavenly Father. What would have happened if we hadn’t followed the clues exactly? I’m so proud of you for obeying and wanting to do what’s right.
Our scriptures (Faith in God books, etc.) are like a treasure because if we live what they say we will be able to go back and live with our Heavenly Father and our families in the Celestial Kingdom, which is the biggest and best treasure of all.
2 Nephi 31:10-11, 20
10 And he said unto the children of men: Follow thou me. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father?
11 And the Father said: Repent ye, repent ye, and be baptized in the name of my Beloved Son.
20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.
D&C 138:55-56
55 I observed that they were also among the noble and great ones who were chosen in the beginning to be rulers in the Church of God.
56 Even before they were born, they, with many others, received their first lessons in the world of spirits and were prepared to come forth in the due time of the Lord to labor in his vineyard for the salvation of the souls of men.
